Seven Day Kenya Family Safari
DAY ONE – NAIROBI CITY TOUR
You’ll begin your safari adventure with a visit to Nairobi’s popular Animal Orphanage. Housed within Nairobi National Park, the Animal Orphanage was established as a refuge and rehabilitation centre and is home to more than twenty animal and bird species. Adults and children alike will have the chance to bond with these animals in an up close and personal experience.
Later in the morning, at 11am, you’ll head to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. You and your kids will get to watch as these adorable baby elephants work through their rehabilitation with exercises, feeding, and bathing.
Next stop is the Giraffe Centre – a breeding centre for the Rothschild Giraffe. The centre’s elevated feeding platform lets visitors have a face to face view of the giraffes as they eat, and children are even afforded the opportunity to hand feed one of these beautiful creatures. You’ll also have the chance to roam the Giraffe Centre’s beautiful grounds, and might meet a few of the centre’s taller residents as you walk.
After lunch, it’s time to visit Mamba Village for a visit to their Crocodile Farm and meet their Masai Ostrich population. Other activities at Mamba Village include fishing, cycling, and swimming. It’s up to you!
DAY 2 – NAIROBI – OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY
You’ll depart from Nairobi after breakfast for the drive to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, sometimes known as Sweet Waters. Along the way you’ll pass through colourful tea and coffee plantations as well as crossing the equator from the southern hemisphere into the northern hemisphere.
After lunch at Sweet Waters, you’ll head out into the park for a game drive. While on your game drive, you’ll stop at the park’s famous Chimpanzee Sanctuary for a guided tour. You’ll get to meet the sanctuary’s highly-endangered and highly intelligent residents under the watchful eye of a specially trained ranger.
Your game drive will also include a visit to the Morani Centre to meet Baraka, the conservancy’s famous tamed rhino. A blind rhino who was moved to the conservancy for his own safety, Baraka is a friendly sight and visitors can even participate in his feeding at various times during the day.
After these visits, you’ll finish off your afternoon with a drive through the park in search of the Big 5 – leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo.
DAY 3 – OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY
While Mum & Dad head out into the park for a day long game drive, the kids can remain behind at Sweet Waters for a day of fun activities including camel riding & horse riding, swimming, and more.
DAYS 4 – OL PAJETA CONSERVANCY – LAKE NAIVASHA
You’ll depart from Ol Pejeta and make your way to the picturesque shores of Lake Naivasha.
Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake located on the rim of the Great Rift Valley. Famous for its bird life, the area is also home to animals such as giraffes and buffalo, as well as velvet and colobus monkeys.
Your day on the lake will include a guided boat safari out on the lake to see hippos and water birds, and a visit to the Crescent Island Sanctuary where you and your kids can walk alongside zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and more.
DAY 5 – LAKE NAIVASHA – MAASAI MARA
It wouldn’t be a safari in Kenya without a visit to the legendary Maasai Mara.
You’ll depart from Lake Naivasha after breakfast and drive south to the Maasai Mara, the home to the Eighth Wonder of the World – the Great Wildebeest Migration.
Whatever time of the year you’re in the park, you’ll get the chance to see lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs, and more. In certain months, during the Wildebeest Migration, the park is flooded with more than 1.7 million wildebeest and 500,000 zebras.
You’ll enjoy lunch at your lodge before heading out into the park for an afternoon game drive.
DAY 6 – MAASAI MARA
You have the option to wake up before dawn for an unforgettable sunrise game drive out in the park. Not only is the savannah particularly beautiful as it is being set fire to by the rising sun, but predators such as lions and leopards are especially active in the cool morning air.
Alternatively, you may wish to take to the skies with an optional hot air balloon safari at dawn. You’ll enjoy a spectacular view of the park and the sunrise from a 1,000 feet before descending to enjoy a champagne breakfast on the savannah.
After your breakfast, you can relax at the lodge until lunch before heading out on a game drive or you can take a picnic lunch and embark on a full day exploration of the park in pursuit of the Wildebeest Migration and the Big Five.
Optional children’s activities at the lodge include Maasai activities such as spear throwing, archery, guided nature walks, or learning how to light a fire the Masai way.
In the evening, you can enjoy a demonstration of traditional Masai dance by the bonfire. Participation is encouraged!
DAY 7 – MASAI MARA – NAIROBI
Say your goodbyes and return to Nairobi, where you’ll have a farewell lunch at Kenya’s most famous restaurant – Carnivore. You’ll have the chance to try game steaks or eat some traditional Kenyan fare.
You’ll then be transferred to the airport for your onward travel.
